Equipment:

I liked the idea to record some action-shots while paragliding so I could make nice video's afterwards. But I encountered a couple of problems when I thought about the attachment of the camera. When you screw the cam onto you helmet, it deteriorates the integrity of the shell. It also forms a protuberance which could get a grip on your line and you have to carry the weight of the camcorder on your head.

Attachment:

To attach the cam there are a lot of possibilities. With an extra long cable it's probably no problem to attach the cam high in your lines, just below the wing itself. I chose to attach the cam to the side or top of my helmet with velcro. I also used a plastic knee-protector from inline skating. With tiny screws I attached the fixed mount on the knee protector. Then the cam could be connected to this mount. It has the advantage you can film yourself from kneepoint-view while flying, without the need to be continiously aware of your cam. The result of all this work can be viewed in my video's on this page. So take a look !
My Movies
Finally I decided to buy me a real helmetcam. It is an external cam, about the size of a lipstick, which can be connected with the analog input of the camcorder.
With the camcorder you can record the images from the external cam. My helmet cam was bought at rf-concepts in England. Because I wanted the cam to be able to make really good shots, I took the 21CWSHR with a High Resolution Sony CCD and 480 TVL. My Digital Videocam has 520 TVL so it was close enough for me.
With the cam I bought the pack containing a batterypack holder, velcro, microphone, carry case, remote control and a fixed mount. I also ordered a wide-angle lens with a 130 degrees angle of view.
